With spring just around the corner colour is a must! Purple is the last of the three trends for spring that I am going to highlight.
Love this purple sitting area. I found it on Pinterest.com. It is from sikamo.com I love the textures and the patterns together. Surprisingly sunny for such dark colours.
According to Empower Yourself With Colour Psychology.com: From a color psychology perspective, purple and violet promote harmony of the mind and the emotions, contributing to mental balance and stability, peace of mind, a link between the spiritual and the physical worlds, between thought and activity. Violet and purple support the practice of meditation.

Ok, we are back on the colour track! This week is orange.
If you have picked up a design magazine in the past couple of months, you have not been able to avoid the Pantone colour of the year. A little history on Pantone, in 1963 their founder developed a universal system of matching colour in the form of a the book called “The Pantone Matching System”. Today Pantone is still the authority on colour. The colour of this year is Tangerine Tango. It’s a bright orange with “a lot of depth”.
The colour orange brings spontaneity and a positive outlook on life and is a great color to use during tough economic times, keeping us motivated and helping us to look on the bright side of life. Orange relates to social communication, stimulating two way conversations. A warm and inviting color, it is both physically and mentally stimulating, so it gets people thinking and talking!

Find Tangerine Tango a little too Orange? Need some inspiration to guide your use of orange? See some different oranges below!
This Photo is a room from HGTV. I really like the starkness of the white and the punches of orange.

Not as exciting as Tangerine Tango but an orange none the less!
I know I promised to have a couple of posts on colour but I think I need to address not only a colour but a pattern as well. There is a pattern that has been hitting the streets for a couple of seasons now and is on trend in both Fashion and Furniture. I am speaking of Ikat. Now the word is a little hard to get your head around but it is definitely everywhere.
I recently had to spend a day in the Eaton Centre and was bombarded by the pattern. The Ikat technique is actually achieved by dying the threads before it is woven which results in a tie-died look. It origins is not known because woven fabric is hard to preserve therefore, no way to trace who gets to claim it. I feel it’s popularity has increased because it lends to nearly every style. It can be traditional, modern, as well as transitional and in a multitude of colours! The colour combinations that I chose today are on purpose. I wanted to stay with a Tangerine accent that is every where this season. (sneak peak to my next post on Oranges)
Even in Shoes from Chinese Laundry How great is this wedge?..sorry…I digress…
This pillow is from CobiStyle. Her new collections for Spring is right on spot for colour and refreshing orange! From Tangerine to Coral it is up lifting and invigorating. (It’s been a long winter of linen and grey!)
1. All things Morgan showed an excellent variety of colours of Ikat
2. Design Sponge a couple of years back did a summary of everything Ikat! (love this site)
3. A Chair on our floor from England Furniture. Made in the US
4. Ikat Fabric from Duralee and England Furniture.
So use this bohemian pattern on everything, we have!
Colour is huge right now in all aspects of fashion! There was a time when home decor followed fashion trends by a few seasons. Now they are synonymous. If you would wear a shirt with a trendy pattern, it can also be made into a pillow for your sofa. Want a pair of those colourful jeans in yellow, red, or blue? You are right on track for accenting your neutral sofa or monochromatic bedroom scheme.
Over the next couple of posts I am going to hi-light colours that you can add to your room to update the look or just give a new feel.
This weeks colour is teal. Here are some pictures of ways to use teal subtly or in a big way.
Here is an excellent representation of several accessories from quite a few of our suppliers. Most of the pillows are from Gift Craft the Throw and Vase are from Canfloyd. Finally the small bowl is from Global Views.
This little chair is a slipper chair from Van Gogh Designs. This company is based in Vancouver! We Love Canadian made!

Great wall colour to make a feature wall or accent a neutral room.
According to the website empower-yourself-with-colour-psychology.com Teal is a heightened version of turquoise. This is what they have to say about turquoise:
Turquoise recharges our spirits during times of mental stress and tiredness, alleviating feelings of loneliness. You only have to focus on the color turquoise, whether on a wall or clothing and you feel instant calm and gentle invigoration, ready to face the world again!
We do a solid wood sale every February. The usual intentions of this is that we get everyone a dining room table in their rooms before Easter. As we are running this sale I am realizing that I never put an emphasis in my advertising on the other products that Dinec offers and they are equally as exciting as their dining rooms. I’ve added a few pictures below to give a feel of what they can do but the possibilities are endless! So this company offers solid wood made in Quebec. Always exciting to get a domestic company!
You can check out their website by clicking on this: Dinec
This is the Fleetwood collection. We like it for it’s simple lines and it’s masculine feel. This Hickory stain for us is very popular. We are often staining pieces in open concept areas Hickory so that they match kitchen cupboards. We usually are asked if the pieces are custom made. It makes us happy!
The Hendrix collection is extremely versatile because it is contemporary it can update any eclectic room. Just an FYI…this sofa is called the Brazilia and will be on our floor in the next couple of weeks…gotta love Jaymar!
The Euphoria collection has been in the line for quite sometime but has such a timeless look that it will be around for even longer! It can be paired with any of their occasional tables and can be finished in any colour.
This week we started to receive our spring orders for accessories. We order accessories for the spring in the late summer/early fall so when they actually arrive in the middle of winter we are so excitedly refreshed by the new shapes and colours! Below is a sneak peak at the new stock!
This Tray is great for in a living room to add a pop of colour on an ottoman. Also, I was thinking it would be perfect in an office on a white desk to collect unsightly bills in to make them easier to bear!
Great shape and colour for adding height to a room and interest to an arrangement of accessories. Grey is so attractive and a definite neutral. It is the new brown!
The Tomato Vases are my latest love affair!
Yellow and grey…need I say more?
We brought the apple green in to the store in a variety of shapes and scales, you can display this colour subtly or in a big way! These are all great accent pieces with great colours to liven up your space! I love the variety of shapes.
These climbing men are a constant on our floor. We have had them climbing up walls, up vaulted ceilings, fireplaces and pretty much anywhere you can think of.
Always a favourite! A little Quirky but the bronze and marble make them sophisticated enough for a distinguished library. They have also been featured in several decor magazines.
Saved the best for last! How amazing are these Blooms? They wall mount. These would add wonderful texture to any flat wall. I also love how they fade to black in the centre. Very retro with the colour and the shape.
Here are some pictures of things that made me smile this week.
1. I like this upper storage with these functional chest below. This entire home is filled with modern classics and great storage solutions decor8 blog The post for this was actually quite a while ago but I had come across this on my book marks and it made me happy all over again!
2. The Union Jack is a huge trend right now. This sofa was an amazing velvet! It had it’s matching ottoman in front of it. The upholstering is pretty amazing on this to have it line up to form the flag! I wish I knew who the supplier was so that I could give them credit but as you can see by the garbage, TCHFM was not completely set up when I took this!
3. I am from the north through and through yet I am not a fan of the cold! Friday was one of the days that i don’t mind the cold because even thought it was -17C there was a rainbow in the sky! In January!
4. This little end table is only 24″ but it now comes in dining size! It will be hitting our store in late March or early April! It is Mango wood and had the depth and richness of colour that is to be expected by an exotic wood. It is from LH Imports, a new supplier for us!
Welcome to our new blog! Super excited to get blogging on WordPress!
There will be many post coming up. Right now I’m just getting oriented in this dashboard! :>
